Stinging Insect Carpenter Bee & Wasp Control

No matter what stinging pest you are dealing with, stings are painful and can even be life threatening. It is wise for homeowners to seek help from the professionals at Mike’s Pest Control when they find any stinging pests on their property. Following is a rundown of stinging pests you may find in our local area of Greater Odenville, Alabama:

Honeybee Relocation

These active pollinators are key to our eco-system. They are one of the most docile stinging pest and will only sting when they feel threatened. Honeybees are identified by their furry bodies and will only sting once. If we find honey bees on your property, Mike’s Pest Control will recommend a bee keeper for relocation.

Carpenter Bees

Even though carpenter bees don’t eat wood, they cause damage to structures by drilling circular holes to create tunnels inside wood. Unlike other common bee species, such as honeybees and bumble bees that live in colonies, carpenter bees are not social insects. They build individual nests into trees or buildings such as homes and sheds.

Paper Wasps

Paper wasps live in small colonies and are identified by the paper like substance they make their nests out of. When their nest is disturbed, they will sting to protect it. They aren’t considered aggressive though.

Bald Faced & European Hornets

Bald Faced hornets build large nests that can be up to 14 inches in diameter. They are considered very aggressive and will attack you if they feel you are getting to close. Their smooth stingers give them the ability to sting their victims over and over again. European hornets, AKA giant hornets or brown hornets, are not as aggressive as bald faced hornets, but will sting if their colony is disturbed. European hornets prefer to construct nests in above ground locations including hollow trees, attics, wall voids and porches.

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets are also an aggressive pest and will sting humans over and over again when they feel threatened. They feed off of protein and sugary substances. You will see them in the late summer and early autumn when their populations hit their peak.
